Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Scout (“Scout,” “we,” “us”) covering your use of the Scout mobile app and related services. They also serve as the End User License Agreement for the app. By creating an account, continuing as a guest, or otherwise using Scout, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Scout.

1. Who may use Scout

You must be at least 13 years old to use Scout. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Scout only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. You are responsible for anything that happens under your account.

2. Your licence to use the app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Scout on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and any rules of the app store you obtained it from. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, or redistribute the app, or use it to build a competing product.

3. Your account

You can use Scout as a guest. If you create an account, keep your credentials secure and tell us promptly if you believe someone else is using it. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account; deletion is permanent and removes your collection, contributions, and profile data.

4. Content you post

Scout includes community features — posts, comments, photos, and patch submissions (“your content”). You keep ownership of your content. By posting it, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, and distribute it within Scout for the purpose of operating the service. You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the rights to post it.

5. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You may not post, upload, or transmit content that is:

hateful, discriminatory, or that attacks or demeans a person or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age;
harassing, bullying, threatening, or intended to intimidate another person;
sexually explicit, pornographic, or sexualising a minor in any way;
violent, graphic, or that promotes or glorifies self-harm, terrorism, or violence against others;
illegal, or that promotes illegal activity or the sale of illegal goods;
deceptive, fraudulent, spam, or impersonating another person or organisation;
infringing on someone else’s intellectual property or privacy;
someone else’s personal information posted without their consent.

Content that breaks these rules may be removed without notice, and accounts that post it may be suspended or terminated permanently.

6. Reporting, blocking, and moderation

Every post, comment, and photo in Scout can be reported from the app: tap the “…” menu on the content and choose Report. You can also block any other user from that same menu; once blocked, you will not see their content and they will not see yours or be able to reply to you. Blocked accounts are listed in Settings → Blocked accounts, where you can unblock them.

We review every report within 24 hours and remove content that breaks these Terms. We may also remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts at our discretion where we believe these Terms have been broken. You can also reach us directly at alan@scout-patches.com.

7. Location and safety

Scout uses your location, with your permission, to unlock patches when you visit places. Scout is not a navigation or safety service. Use common sense: do not use the app while driving, and do not trespass, enter closed or unsafe areas, or ignore posted rules or local laws to reach a place. You are responsible for your own safety and for how you travel. Patch locations and place information may be inaccurate or out of date.

8. Purchases and merchandise

Scout is free to use and has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. Every patch and collection in the app is earned by visiting places — none of them are, or will be, sold. Physical merchandise is sold separately through our online store under that store’s own terms; it is not an in-app purchase and buying it does not unlock anything in the app. Digital items you unlock have no cash value and cannot be transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for money.

9. Availability and changes

Scout is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service, and we may update these Terms; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notified in the app. Continuing to use Scout after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of Scout. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Termination

You may stop using Scout and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including content licences already granted, disclaimers, and limitations of liability — will survive.

12. Apple App Store

If you obtained Scout from the Apple App Store, the following applies: these Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Scout or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Scout. If Scout fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Scout. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Scout, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, or intellectual property claims. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as “terrorist supporting,” and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
